Course Syllabus


The course is structured into 2 modules following 10 sessions spread over total four days of lectures. Each day consists of four hours of lecture time including short breaks in between. Module 1 covers the Base SAS programming and Module 2 Advance SAS. Course syllabus includes:


  • Session 1 : Introduction of SAS

  • The sectors using the services. Benefit of using SAS for data analysis and manipulations, SAS working environment, Different modules available for SAS basic and PDV.


  • Session 2 : Datasets

  • How to create datasets, how to import and read raw data in SAS, Converting other software files to SAS datasets, input types


  • Session 3 : Data control functions


  • OBS, Missover, Keep & Drop etc.. Format & Informats & double trailing function


  • Session 4 : Assignment Statements and Functions

  • Assignment Statements, numeric functions, character functions & date time functions


  • Session 5 : Conditional Control Statements

  • Conditionals: Condition control statements, loop & array


  • Session 6 : Merging Data

  • Combining Data: Different ways to combines data in SAS


  • Session 7 : Procedures

  • Proc print,proc content, proc freq, proc sort, proc format, proc append, proc means, proc summary, proc transpose, proc datasets, proc reports


  • Session 8 : ODS & Errors

  • Report Generation: How to generate different type of report output through SAS and the different type of errors faced while coding in editor window.


  • Session 9 : Proc SQL

  • Introduction to Proc SQL and join functions


  • Session 10 : SAS Macros

  • Macro and local and global declaration of macro variables

Students are provided a web conference link allowing them to join the course on line at the scheduled date and time. Students have a choice of dialing in using a phone or using their computer microphone and speaker (or headset).


The course is divided into 10 lectures each consisting of 1.5 hours duration. This includes time for initial setup (getting connected over the internet and dialing into the web conference) as well as recap of previous lecture(s) and/ or Q&A.

The instructor sessions are recorded and made available to students from their on-line dashboard. This is helpful for students who miss a lecture or wish to revisit the lecture at their pace after the live sessions.
